Polyester Fiber for Cotton Blends

Prepare a poly-cotton sourcing brief that keeps component names, material forms and downstream uses clear.

01 / Planning the purchase

Identify what you are purchasing

A polyester-cotton project can involve raw fiber, spun yarn or finished fabric. If the polyester will be blended with cotton before spinning, describe a staple-fiber requirement. If your factory starts with yarn packages or rolls of fabric, identify that buying stage instead. The blend name alone does not tell a supplier which material form is needed.

02 / Planning the purchase

Write ratios with component names

Always pair each percentage with its fiber. “Polyester 60%, cotton 40%” is clearer than an isolated “60/40.” This is an illustrative recipe, not a product offer. When teams reverse the order of fiber names, the meaning of an unlabelled ratio can reverse too. A written component list avoids that simple but costly misunderstanding.

03 / Planning the purchase

Describe the intended fabric

Explain whether the blend is for shirting, workwear, knitwear, bedding or another application. Include the construction route when known and describe the look and feel the buyer is aiming for. The final experience depends on the whole fabric construction, so a fiber blend name should not be treated as a finished-fabric promise.

04 / Planning the purchase

Plan quantities on a consistent basis

Separate total blend mass from the polyester quantity you intend to buy. The blend calculator can translate an agreed percentage into component masses. Its arithmetic does not include production loss; keep any mill allowance as a separate planning input so that the recipe itself remains easy to understand.

05 / Planning the purchase

Keep the purchasing record together

Use one project name across inquiry emails, internal notes and later discussions. Record the blend, end use, planned quantity and destination in the same document. If one of these changes, send an updated summary rather than a standalone correction that another colleague may miss.

Example inquiry outline

We are developing a polyester/cotton yarn for a fabric project. We will name both components beside the agreed percentages in our inquiry. Our production team is calculating the total input mass; the polyester share will be shown separately from the complete blend quantity. The purchasing contact will provide the destination and the current project reference.

Adapt this illustrative outline to your own project before sending.
