01 / Planning the purchase
Choose the correct count system
This converter supports tex, metric count Nm and English cotton count Ne. Ne here specifically means the cotton-count system based on 840-yard lengths per pound. It does not mean worsted count or another numbering system. Always check the label on your original yarn reference before choosing an input unit.

Direct and indirect counts
Tex expresses grams per 1,000 metres. Nm expresses metres per gram, so tex equals 1,000 divided by Nm. Cotton Ne counts 840-yard lengths per pound; the conversion is tex = 590.541247448 / Ne, using the international pound and yard definitions. Higher tex means greater mass per length, while higher Ne or Nm means less mass per length.

Worked arithmetic example
Enter 20 tex. The result is 50 Nm and approximately 29.527062 Ne. Entering 50 Nm returns the same 20 tex. These are equivalent descriptions of the same yarn’s linear mass, not recommendations about its end use. If a document uses a rounded conversion constant, small differences in the final displayed digits are expected.

Keep the yarn identity unchanged
Convert the count of the same yarn throughout. This tool does not interpret plied-yarn notation or infer the count of a combined yarn from the count of its constituent singles. A yarn-count conversion also cannot predict spinning suitability from an individual fiber’s linear density. Only positive finite values are accepted.
